myBlee Math’s knowledge maps
Mathematics are Universal! And Mathematics can be clustered in logical areas. This led us to create 16 Math Maps for K-6. Some topics have to be learned in a logical order to ease and enable understanding and learning (e.g. addition, multiplication and division are always taught in that order, and each topic is necessary in order to understand the following topic).
That being said, beyond these logical learning links countries, states and districts make different choices in how they structure and deliver their school curriculum.
The Math Maps that myBlee Math proposes deliver the logical links between topics. Our team of teachers have built “knowledge trees” for each area of Math, identifying for each “knowledge node” its predecessors and successors. As a matter of fact, a child that understands multiplication can start studying square roots, and will be able to do so in myBlee Math – no matter which grade he or she is in. Therefore, any student will be able to explore an area of the knowledge tree, progressing along the “knowledge tree” pre-requisites. Of course the US standards are respected and followed, and teachers can guide students to topics for their specific grades, but they can also let them progress and explore beyond.
In our cartography methodology, we break down “knowledge” into topics and sub-topics covering K-6 mathematics. myBlee Math calls these topics “modules”.
